What a crazy world we live in ?!?!
Not a day goes by that we are not bombarded with diet
plans, crazes and solutions. Take this pill. Buy this easy
to use machine. Eat anything you want. No workouts.
Read this book. Listen to my tape . . . it goes on and on.
Our philosophy on weight control is one based in
research. It is not new. It is fairly simple. The
problem is that it involves making sometimes not as enjoyable choices.
But it is definitely worth the work and worth the choices. It is
based on these simple principles.
- Nutrition - A very simple
principle : if you take in too much fuel, it will be stored.
Good nutrition is not hard, it involves eating the right foods.
It doesn't have to mean deprivation but it does mean moderation.
The most important thing is that is has to be a long term habit of
good nutrition.
- Exercise - Your muscles are like
an engine. They require fuel. The more toned they are the
better they will use the fuel. We firmly believe that diet, or
weight control without exercise is not a good choice. In
addition, exercise has excellent additional benefits other than weight
control. It aids in well being, confidence, general health,
concentration, and energy as well as increases the chances of a long
life. There are two important exercise areas that we emphasize:
Aerobic - these are exercises that work the heart and lungs.
They strengthen these organs as well as can burn fat.
Resistance Training - Resistance training increases muscle mass
and helps build the engine. In addition muscle
development helps prevent injuries and can build and maintain bone
mass. Done right this can aid in balance and coordination.

IMPORTANT NOTE
ABOUT KIDS, DIET AND WEIGHT LOSS
One of the most difficult issues we, as
fitness professionals, must deal with is that of young people,
diets and weight loss. It is a topic of crucial importance
as is one that can not only threaten the safety of children but
can effect them for the rest of their lives ! We stand
firm on several policies as they relate to this topic.
- The only individual that can
definitively determine if a child is overweight or not is
their Physician.
- We will not individualize
programs that target weight loss without the support of a
Physician. We will individualize programs that will
enhance fitness and may change body composition with the
primary goal being a more healthy, fit child.
- Unfortunately much of the
media and society in general projects an unrealistic picture
of fitness and body composition for our young people. We
celebrate the unique variations in how our young people are
made and encourage realistic goals for healthy body image and
the programs to reach those goals. Along with these
goals our staff strive to instill self confidence through a
fit, healthy body.
